With 12,848 Centre alumni out and about in the world, it often seems easy to run into a Centre graduate no matter where you go. Now it is easier than ever to find alumni, thanks to the launch of the Colonel Connection Business Directory.
The Colonel Connection is an alumni-only directory that allows alumni to promote their own businesses and search for those of other alumni.
The directory was born as part of the Alumni Association's Board of Directors Strategic Plan, which aims to improve the exchange of information among alumni as well as create a more interactive alumni website.
Megan Haake Milby ’03, director of alumni affairs, says, "We hope the Directory will promote interdisciplinary contacts and encourage relationship building throughout the Centre alumni body."
Only alumni who are signed up through CentreLink, the Alumni Affairs Office's online community, can use the directory, which ensures that their personal information remains protected.
Associate Director of Alumni Affairs Colleen Courtwright explains, "Our hope is for the Colonel Connection to provide new opportunities for alumni to connect while also protecting their privacy.
"The directory will serve as a tool not only to make business connections but also personal connections with Centre alumni," she adds.
Pam Deitchle '97 is a Pasadena, Calif., lawyer whose practice, Grace and Grace LLP, is listed in the directory. For her, the Colonel Connection has a dual purpose.
"I primarily listed my business in case an alum needed a lawyer and preferred one who went to Centre," she says. "Secondarily, I sometimes find myself in need of miscellaneous professional services and would always use a Centre alum if possible."
Deitchle also appreciates the directory's ability to help alumni help each other.
"It's a good way to network and keep in contact with the broader Centre community," she explains. "Not to mention develop business for myself. Now we just need more people involved."
Milby plans for the directory to help maintain connections between alumni like never before.
"Our alumni are moving across the country, and when they move, they use the web to find roommates, dentists, doctors, realtors and anyone else they may need," she says. "With the Colonel Connection, Centre alumni can search for other alumni living in their area who provide these services. They now have a connection, and hopefully these relationships will grow and create a sort of satellite community for our Centre alumni."
