Centre community spreads the love with Centre Compliments

February 14, 2013 By Elizabeth Trollinger
Centre Compliments On the Centre Compliments Facebook page, students share
kindness with one another through anonymous compliments.

As the saying goes, if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all. Fortunately, at Centre, students have so many nice things to say about their peers that they have created a place especially for that purpose.

The Centre Compliments Facebook page, founded anonymously in mid-November of 2012, is designed expressly as a place to spread the Centre love.

“Centre Compliments is a social project that aims to spread joy to the Centre Community,” reads the page’s ‘About’ section.

Modeled after a project begun at Queens University in Ontario, the Facebook page invites students to send a message with a kind statement about a fellow student, which will be posted to the page anonymously.

“If there is something nice you have to say about someone but don't feel comfortable saying it to their face, or simply want to give a fun and mysterious compliment to someone you care about, inbox away,” the Compliments page says.

Centre is not the only college to latch onto the idea of spreading kindness. An article on TIME Magazine’s website about the phenomenon says that, by early December 2012, 56 schools from across the globe had created similar Compliments pages.

The positivity emanating from the Centre Compliments page seems to be catching: 860 people are friends with the page, and the number continues to grow.

Just a few of the compliments paid to Centre students through the page include, “You’re an amazing person and an awesome friend,” “You are such a role model to myself and so many other people on Centre's campus,” and even, “You’re simply the best.”

The Centre Compliments page has made an important impact in the few months it has been established, and as it admonishes its friends to “Spread the Love,” it seems like Centre students will continue doing just that.
