20 Questions with Associate for News and Marketing Cindy Long

1. Position at Centre?
Associate for News and Marketing.

2. Where did you grow up (and describe the place in one phrase or sentence)?
Although I’ve lived a few other places, I’ve called Danville home for the most part since I was 12. Prior to that, suffice it to say the farm I lived on in Central Indiana was so rural it made Danville seem like a big city!

3. What are your hobbies?
I have several, but my favorite hobby is riding my Harley.

4. What is your dream vacation?
Anywhere with a beach, a book and a cooler.

5. Favorite artist and/or work of art?
M.C. Escher.

6. Favorite novel or poem?
My favorite book is always the one I’m currently reading. I’m a little ashamed to admit that I’m on book five of the “Game of Thrones” series. I can’t stop! And I devoutly hope nothing happens to George R.R. Martin before he’s finished!

7. Favorite sport (to watch or play)?
I love to play ping pong. Is that a sport?

8. Favorite TV show?
“Modern Family” or “Sunday Morning.”

9. Favorite album?
“Souvenirs” by Dan Fogelberg.

10. Favorite holiday?
This year it’s Christmas—thank you, President Roush!

11. Favorite food?
Wow! That covers a lot of ground for someone who loves to eat. But I guess my favorite would be my late mother’s chicken and noodles, a recipe carried on beautifully by my sister.

12. Most prized possession?
The one I hold most dear is a jewelry box my husband had made for me when we were dating. The one I have the most fun with is, ya’ know, the Harley.

13. Three people, living or deceased, whom you’d invite to the same dinner party?
Dan Fogelberg, Ayn Rand and Bob Schieffer. No profound reason, they’re just people I’d like to meet.

14. Biggest pet peeve?
Putting something where I know I’ll remember, then forgetting.

15. Most memorable experience of your youth?
My sisters and I had an amazing tree house, but our German shepherd would cry for us from the ground whenever we were up in it. One day we got the bright idea to cobble up a sling and pulley to haul him up to us. Unfortunately for him it worked, and we spent the next several hours trying to return a dog, paralyzed by fear, back to earth.

16. What would you be doing if you weren’t working at Centre?
After watching them first-hand, I think being a Secret Service agent would be very cool.

17. Educational experience that's been most helpful to you?
Working on my college’s daily newspaper was an early lesson on the importance of deadlines.

18. Fictional character in whose shoes you’d love to spend a day?
Tyrion Lannister, but only on a day when someone isn’t trying to kill him.

19. Favorite place on campus (and why)?
Looking toward Old Centre from the second floor of Campus Center. It’s such a serene view.

20. Advice you'd give to a first-year college student to make success more likely?
Don’t focus so much on your major that you fail to take advantage of opportunities outside your field of study. You may be surprised!
