Says Randy Hays, vice president and dean of student life: “I know that our students are concerned about the environment, and having this building be as ‘green’ as possible was one of our goals in the early planning stages for this community gathering place. This is a real tribute to the students, faculty and staff who were part of the planning process with our architect partners Hastings and Chivetta.”

What makes the Campus Center environmentally friendly?

The Campus Center was built using sustainable design and materials, including a variable irrigation system, which eliminates the need for permanent and constant use of water for irrigation; low-flow lavatories and sinks and dual-flush toilets; controllability of lighting, heating and cooling; paints, adhesives and sealants that contain no harmful ingredients; recycling containers throughout the building; high recycled content and regional materials within the structure of the building; and reserved parking for carpool vehicles, low-emitting/fuel efficiency vehicles and plenty of bike racks on the north and south sides of the building.
