Getting to know...Vince DiMartino

world's best trumpet players, having performed with musicians
such as Stevie Wonder, Ella Fitzgerald and the Boston Pops.

W. George Matton Professor of Music

2. Where did you grow up?
West Babylon, Long Island, New York

3. What are your hobbies?
Collecting old trumpets and cornets and learning about our regional history in Kentucky

4. What is your dream vacation?
Taking my wife, Patti, and my kids to Greece for a month

5. Favorite artist and/or work of art?
My favorite artist is Doc Severinsen, as he has always been my major influence on trumpet

6. Favorite novel or poem?
Robert Frost-"The Road Not Taken"

7. Most memorable trip or vacation?
My first trip to Greece

8. Favorite field trip you’ve led at Centre?
CentreTrumpets to Thailand and Greece

9. Favorite album?
Maurice Andre-Trumpetissimo

10. Favorite singer and/or band?
Louis Armstrong bands

11. Favorite food?
Fresh seafood of any type

12. Favorite season?
Fall

13. Three people, living or deceased, who you’d invite to the same dinner party?
Just three? Impossible!! But how about my mom, Marie DiMartino, my wife, Patti Powell; and my three kids. (Sorry, but I can’t invite just one.)

14. Favorite aspect of your job?
Working with my applied music and ensemble students

15. Favorite Centre tradition?
The Family Weekend Concert we do together with all ensembles

16. What would you be doing if you weren't working at Centre?
Cooking!

17. Educational experience that's been most helpful to you?
Performing with Lionel Hampton, The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra and The Clark Terry Big Band

18. Best thing about growing up in your family?
Sunday family gatherings

19. Favorite place on campus (and why)?
Grant Hall because I hear my students practicing there!

20. Advice you'd give to a first-year college student to make career success more likely?
Explore, enjoy and meet challenges.
