Getting to know…Gary Bugg

1. Position at Centre? Director of Public Safety

2. Hometown? Grew up in Danville, Ky., wolfing down Royal Burgers from Burger Queen and honing my athletic skills at Jackson Park

3. What are your hobbies? Golf, racquetball and poker

4. What is your dream vacation? Rome, St. Andrews, Scotland, and Alaska (in no particular order)

5. Favorite artist and/or work of art? Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel ceiling

6. Favorite novel or poem? Novel: The DaVinci Code; poem: “Annabel Lee” by Edgar Allan Poe

7. Most memorable trip or vacation? This past summer, we took a family vacation out west to Salt Lake City, Yellowstone and Sun Valley, Idaho. All three are incredibly beautiful!

8. Favorite TV show? The Daily Show or Sportscenter

9. Favorite album? The soundtrack from Once by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova

10. Favorite singer and/or band? Bono; U2

11. Favorite food? All shellfish with the exception of mussels

12. Favorite season? Fall: temperature, football – enough said.

13. Three people, living or deceased, who you’d invite to the same dinner party? My father, Abraham Lincoln, Arnold Palmer and Jesus Christ; couldn’t whittle it down to three

14. Favorite aspect of your job? The people with whom I work. It’s great to have a job that I still love after 23 years. I would guess that not too many people can honestly say that.

15. Favorite Centre tradition? The flame–no doubt

16. What would you be doing if you weren't working at Centre? I have absolutely no idea. I love math and statistics so maybe something along those lines.

17. Educational experience that's been most helpful to you? Dr. Mykol Hamilton’s red pen made me a much gooder writer.

18. Best thing about growing up in your family? Great parental support and love and an older brother to toughen me up

19. Favorite place on campus (and why)? Young Hall; I had some great classes in there, and that’s where my wife started pursuing me (in a safe way, of course).

20. Advice you'd give to a first-year college student to make success more likely? All things in moderation
