Helen Emmitt joined Centre College in August of 2002 as an associate professor and now serves as Professor of English. Prior to joining Centre she served as professor of English at Virginia Military Institute and was visiting assistant professor of English at Centre from 1995 to 1998.

She earned a Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley and did her undergraduate work at Bryn Mawr College. In 2001 she was published in “Rhyming Hope and History: Medbh McGuckian's Recent Poetry.” “Forgotten Memories and Unheard Rhythms: H.D.'s Poetics as a Response to Male Modernism,” is her most recent publication in a special issue of Paideuma, devoted to H.D. and Marianne Moore.
